Himalayan Chalkot Camp

About Himalayan Chalkot Camp

Company of woodland treasures and snow-capped mountains can often spur the imagination and leave one transformed. Perched on a secluded grass carpeted meadow, Camp Chalkot, promises just that. An ideal base camp for the Tungnath, Chandrashila and Deoriatal treks, this Himalayan Eco Lodge campsite has the advantage of being in the middle of nature's best in the evergreen forest region of Chopta.

Assigned the moniker of Mini Switzerland, Chopta is a part of the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. No wonder, birding enthusiasts, nature lovers or those who simply like to trace the spine of the mountains rise and dip in the distance will be addicted to the camp life here. In summers, the surroundings are saturated in green, until you hit the remnant snow slopes of Chandrashila, 4000 metres above sea level. In winters, snow treks challenge you to master a game of 'slip-fall-balance' even over short distances.

On way to Chandrashila, a stop at the highest Shiva temple in the world, Tungnath, is a spiritual experience in more ways that you can imagine. Deoriatal, on the other hand, is an excellent learning ground for young hikers, given its short distance and twisted dirt trails that are fun to maneuver. Other easier hikes to the Ukhimath temple, Mukkumat and Kalimath or picnics at Baniyakund and Mandal are planned for those who have a head for hikes and a heart for the outdoors.

It's not all about legging it in Chopta, one can fill the days with rafting, rappelling, cycling, jummaring, bouldering, and even angling. But its chai with Chain Singh local village immersion- that really brings a smile on people's faces. Needless to say that the full bellied, white tipped Himalayan range is the biggest draw card of the location.
