Thiksey Monastery is an imposing religious edifice, which earns recognition as one of the most spectacular Buddhist shrines of Ladakh. It is affiliated to the Gelug lineage that forms a part of the Yellow Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

The architecture of this monastery incorporates elements of Ladakh's typical architectural style. It has a towering structure of 12 storeys, which consists of stupas, monastic residences, prayer halls and small shrines. It also has a large engraved pillar, which features teachings of Lord Buddha.
